“He’s coming” the older of the two priests said. The younger priest pulled a face and clearly showed contempt in his voice.

“I don’t know why we have to pull in an outsider, one who has been expelled from his own parish. Even the Protestants did not want him.”

The older priest pulled his dog collar and reminded himself of patience with his young charge.

“He has been pulled in because we have nobody else who can do what this man of God can. Before you judge - observe Lincoln!” he used only his surname deliberately in an attempt to humble the young upstart.

This irritated Lincoln, but he pulled back a retort and reminded himself of his necessary obedience.

Father Raye was first to greet his arrival.

“Meical Trewant, pleased to meet you” Father Raye was intentionally sincere and he cupped his hands around Meical’s. He instantly felt the middle aged visitor’s strength and the Holy Spirit that flowed off him in copious amounts. The priest felt his mind relaxing before hearing a deep voice inside say TRUST IN ME. The tingling sensation that he received when he first made contact coursed through his body and where it touched, it healed: the lumbago, the rheumatism and the irritable bowel syndrome. He was yet to discover that when he next visited the doctor, all these ailments would be gone. For now he relished in the relief and the heightening of senses.

The young priest had noticed the older priest’s reaction and instead of feeling his built up resentment he started to become apprehensive. Meical held out his hand, inviting the young priest to take it. When he touched, Father John Lincoln felt incredibly humbled and he heard the deep voice too. However, these words were different and almost instantly the priest dropped to his knees, looking up he pleaded at Meical asking for forgiveness.

“It is not mine to give, but I will ask” was simply and quietly spoken and Meical used his other hand to gently touch the priest’s head. He drew out the negative energy and reached into his mind to ask Christ if he could do so. After the young priest recovered and regained his composure, Meical spoke to him again. “Please lead me to the patient, Father Lincoln. I would be most pleased if you could be my guide and assistant.”

“I would be happy to” Father Lincoln happily replied. As they walked through the corridors of the monastery, Meical turned to Father Raye asking for more information relating to the demon that possessed the body of a young monk - currently incarcerated in his own room, which now was locked with two monks guarding exit and entrance to the makeshift cell.

Father Raye was very knowledgeable in things that went bump in the night, and also much bigger things that crashed through the day. He had successfully performed many exorcisms but the current demon possessing the poor unfortunate monk was far too powerful for him. Leon Raye, intelligent though he was, was wiser more so. He knew his limitations. And he had no doubt that the legendary Meical Trewant could cast it out. It was rumoured in the Church that God travelled with Meical. His handshake in greeting certainly confirmed more than mere confidence.
